How to Plan a Kids Fancy Dress Party

There is nothing that young kids like better than the opportunity to dress up. Whether it is as their favorite character on TV, something scary for Halloween or simply a classic costume like a pirate, they love the opportunity to pretend to be someone else. If it is your kids birthday coming up soon or you simply want to treat them to a party with all their friends, planning a fancy dress party is a great treat for them, and let’s face it, a perfect opportunity for you to take plenty of photos! Decide on a Theme

First of all, you need to decide on a theme for the party or simply one where everyone can dress as whatever they like. Obviously, speak to your child to find out some of their ideas, but there are plenty of common choices. We have already talked about a pirate party, but another option is a Roman party in which case you need to know how to make a toga. Other ideas include under the sea, fairies and princesses, Harry Potter or superheros. Basically, use your imagination but remember that you don’t want to make the costume too complicated!

Send Out the Invitations

Once you have decided on the theme, a nice touch is to send out the invitations in this style. For example, if you are having a Harry Potter party, you should send out the classic letters to Hogwarts which are bound to get everyone excited about the party. Remember that you need to give plenty of notice as there is a lot more planning involved for kids and parents when it comes to a fancy dress party compared to a regular one.

Fancy Food and Decorations

If you really want to go all out with the theme, you should consider preparing some fancy food. This is where you can really get creative. For example, jelly boats are a good idea for a pirate party while biscuit wands are ideal for a fairy event. The decorations are an area that you can really go all-out as well. Your only limitations are your budget and your imagination. But you don’t necessarily have to break the bank as a lot of decorations can be made by hand or you can alternatively head down to discount shops instead.

Decide on Entertainment and Games

You should decide whether you are going to run the entertainment and games yourself or you are going to hire someone to do part of the job for you. Getting an entertainer who fits the theme of the party can really set your party out from the rest. However, be careful if the kids are too young. Kids dressed up as pirates are cute but adults dressed up can be very scary! There are plenty of themed games that you can try or even just twists on classics. For example, an adventurer or mystery party would be great to have a game that involves following clues.
